Global Screening: The Benefits of a Technology-First Strategy

There is no doubt that the workplace is now truly global and companies are ready, willing and able to employ talent from around the world. Location – of candidate and company – has become irrelevant compared to the need to secure the right talent. But for this international workforce to be assembled, employers need to be certain of who they are recruiting, that those individuals are who they say they are, and that they do not pose a risk to their organisation.

How Does Accurate Use Technology to Screen?

This is where Accurate comes in. Their approach to candidate screening doesn’t just give employers certainty, it does so through an efficient and easy to access service for both organisations and candidates. Director of Global Solutions, Chris Wilson, believes the global business now combines international expertise with the best in technology to offer a fully comprehensive screening service anywhere in the world: “The amount of expertise in the business is impressive,” he comments, “It’s not uncommon for our people to bring 10-20 years’ experience to our customers.”

That experience, backed by leading edge technology, means Accurate can deliver comprehensive candidate screening services to nearly two hundred countries, in each case tailored specifically to the circumstances of the business, the work required and the individual candidate. And while this could be a complex and involved process, the experience for candidates and employers is easy to access and understand.

Accurate’s global screening solution enables employers to order pre-employment checks for individuals via their Applicant Tracking System or Accurate’s online portal. The checks could be a pre-selected package or a specific order. Accurate’s system will inform the candidate – by email or text message – that the application forms are ready to be filled out.

Keeping Your Data Safe Through Technology

As Wilson points out, the type of information required and the way those requests are administered varies from country to country. Accurate’s technology automatically delivers the right questions to the right candidate in a fully compliant way. “If I’m in the US, the system will know the type of background checks that are required,” explains Wilson. “In some countries, checks such as criminal checks may only be available under specific circumstances so the system can automatically cancel those if they are not appropriate.”

It is not just the type of background check that varies from location to location, however. As Wilson points out the recording, storage, and management of data also changes between countries. Accurate’s technology has been built to deliver compliance at this level too. “There are retention rules for every country which govern where data can be stored, what types of data need to be purged straight away and so on,” says Wilson. Such rules have affected Accurate’s investment in its global technology infrastructure – there are specific servers in Australia, for example, set up in order to comply with data storage rules in that country.

Delivering a global screening service also means being able to communicate with everyone, wherever they may be. Accurate has created a translation engine which means candidates – and employers – receive the service in their language. This is also backed up by in-person support where necessary, in some parts of the world made available 24/7.

Looking Into the Future

What emerges from talking to Wilson is that Accurate’s approach is one which effectively layers compliant and tailored provision of background checks to meet every unique circumstance. The company has been able to do this through diligent and careful growth – the acquisition of Vero, now Accurate, in the UK, for example, was a way of securing a business with a similar outlook to theirs and with extensive knowledge and experience of financial markets. The business is also one of the few accredited companies with the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore.

As the business moves into the future the intention is to bring the company’s knowledge and approach into one database which will support search work around the world. “We know how to do the job,” says Wilson, “and we can do it at scale.”

With a strategic approach to the technology required as well as the level of service delivered, Accurate is set to offer its service to more employers keen to make the most of the global workforce. “We are a product focused team,” concludes Wilson, “and we want to deliver a great experience for everyone involved.”
